I made chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and whipped ganache frosting. it was real good.

my birthday cake: tiramisu cake from smittenkitchen. vanilla cake soaked with espresso & brandy syrup, filled and frosted with mascarpone cream frosting (which also has espresso and brandy) and dusted with shaved chocolate. ridiculously delicious.

I made mini Oreo cheesecakes, just because.

I made salted caramel brownies from smitten kitchen. they are just as amazing as you’d imagine. I overlooked my caramel a little so it’s more crunchy than gooey, but I like it.

I made a dark chocolate cake with creme fraiche chocolate mousse filling and whipped ganache frosting. it was just that kind of day.

the first link is the inspiration for the cake, and i used their “brownie cake recipe,” which sadly turned out to be the weak link of the three components. it was kind of gummy and i think that a more traditional cake texture would have paired better with the mousse. which was amazing, by the way. definitely the best part.

my brother is driving out to his new school in Montana tomorrow (wah) so I made him some healthy snacks for the long road out west: granola bars and granola-crusted nuts, both of which are delicious. I’ll definitely be making myself granola bars all the time now, they’re so good.

(this picture makes the granola bar look like it has corn in it but i promise it’s just nuts.)

so this just looks like a lump but it is in fact this crazy cake my sister and I made. it’s chocolate whiskey cake and it has coffee, whiskey, black pepper, cloves, and lots of chocolate. it is incredible and it tastes like Christmas.

ugh i know it would improve this blog so much if i took decent pictures but i’m too lazy to use my real camera and the lighting in my kitchen is terrible. maybe that’ll be my new years resolution for this blog: to put more effort into making it pretty.
